About Haruhino-Gama Pottery
Potter, Owner of Haruhino-Gama
There are many places in the world that use pottery, but "adoring" it is a unique Japanese culture. The spirit of being close to the soil and finding beauty in it is the essence of Japanese culture and the foundation of the Japanese mind. Loving pottery and eating good food of the season leads to 'living well. The reason why I didn’t make Haruhino-Gama a just gallery but a café with a pottery art workshop is because I wanted to create a place where people can once again feel the sense of season that we Japanese have cherished since ancient times, the importance of eating with respect to the season, and carefully making things. Some people possibly have an image of pottery as old or difficult. However, I’d like to say it is not, but more fun. By seeking something new and with keeping the essence, I would like to continue making pottery that people want to keep close to them and to make their heart happier.
Creating Patterns with Nara Cloth
All of the pottery in Haruhino-Gama is by Noriko Nakano, a potter. Her work is characterized by the fact that she mainly uses a technique called "Nunome" to create patterns using the texture of cloth. She uses Nara cloth for this technique. The patterns created by the texture appeal to the aesthetic sense of the Japanese people, who feel "taste" and "beauty" in simple things and nature. When you found your favorite ones, we also sell them.
